OK... if you don't like
heights, skip the first pic !!
This is looking down from our
room on the 17th floor of the Sokos
Hotel Ilves in Tampere, Finland. They were playing beach volleyball
down there... and LOUD music ! There was a promotion for Red Bull going on, and
they sure were making themselves heard.
Looking out from the room this
time, instead of straight down.

OK... you don't know this guy,
but... he's part of the reason Bill goes to Finland. He's the big knob of the
company who run the conference, Glass Processing Days, and in
this pic, he's holding something that Bill's company, DMS glass, pioneered,
but sold the rights to DuPont in a deal that ended up being not
as profitable as was anticipated. To cut a long story short, they
offered a substantial amount up front, and royalties for ten years, but when it
came time to pay up, they reneged on their contract. And yes, we *are* talking
about *THAT* DuPont ! Anyway, it's a digital photo, laminated between two sheets
of glass. They can do it with absolutely anything that you can
photograph, up to huge sizes, and the picture will be translucent but won't
fade. Its potential is enormous. At the conference, this man took all credit for
the product, and didn't even mention DMS Glass, much less give them credit for
the invention. Oh well, them's the breaks !

This was the first night, at
the welcome dinner. They held it in a huge tent by a lake, and it was coooooold !
Don't know if you're
interested, but while searching for associated links, I came across this page,
which has an article about Bill's partner's
house, with a photo of it. Ironically, it's on a DuPont
website.
