As always, I was on the lookout
for waterfalls, and had seen Torc
waterfall marked on the map (Ring of
Kerry). After driving a few miles, we saw a sign that said it was the
carpark for Torc Waterfall, so we pulled in. An elderly looking Irishman with a
horsedrawn buggy offered to take us round the lake and to the falls... for 20
Euro each ! He told us it was an hour's round trip, so we politely declined
saying unfortunately we didn't have that much time to spare. He then offered to
take us just to the falls for 10 Euro a head, a half hour ride, so after a
moment's deliberation , we agreed. He directed us to a younger man across the
carpark, who proceeded to inform us that he couldn't take us right to the falls,
but he would drop us off and wait while we walked up to see them. At this point,
Bill said we would just drive up there ourselves, to which the older man replied
that the walk from the roadway would take us an hour. It all sounded very fishy,
so we hopped back in the car and drove a mile or so further up the road, where
we came upon this sign...

We parked the car and walked
the 200 yards to the falls !
The road goes across the top of
this old bridge, and the stream flows under the arch on the right.
