I am a regular Travelodge user so booked this newly
opened lodge (it had been open for only 4 weeks when
I visited) for my first visit to Leatherhead. Being
a single female traveller carrying a substantial
amount of kit, the reputation and consistency of
chains such as Travelodge is important. I had
checked the brochure carefully before re-reading the
lodge details published online and making an online
reservation. Unfortunately what the brochure and the
website omitted to mention was that the hotel is
located on the pedestrianised main street and as
such has no parking facilities (although I believe
that the huge numbers of complaints received have
forced them to point this out clearly in their
recent publications). Guests have to park in the
public car parks of which only a limited number of
spaces are within a couple of minutes of the hotel.
This only added to the frustration already felt at
having been unable to find the lodge following
Travelodge's own directions (and no one answering
calls to reception to ask for directions) - since
they omit a couple of crutial stages - visitors are
best advised to print their own local map of
Leatherhead from the internet before setting out.
After arriving over an hour late (the result of bad
directions and staggering across town with my kit) I
was given the keycard to my room - on entering it I
was as surprised as the naked couple already
occupying it to find that the receptionist had in
fact checked me into the wrong room.
Not what I have come to expect of Travelodge I'm
afraid and I won't be returning in the future.
