Since we were officially gatecrashers at the wedding, we weren't able to
attend the wedding breakfast, but we were invited to the evening reception
at the local golf club. In the meantime, we went for a drive to another of
our favourite childhood haunts, Blackpool.

This has to be the most popular holiday resort in England, and finding a
place to park was a total nightmare !

These first four are Bill's photos.

One very small section of Blackpool Illuminations with the Ferris Wheel
in the background. Maggi took more of the illuminations, so I wouldn't be
surprised to see some of them pop up on her pages soon, since she's back
now with her super beasty 'puter !

Don't ask !!!! Blackpool is absolutely teeming with young people enjoying bucks' and
hens' parties, so I can only guess that maybe that's what these fellas were all about !
One of them asked me what part of Oz I was from as he passed. I don't know if he'd
seen the Aussie pin I was wearing, or if he'd heard me speak and thought I sounded
like an Aussie !

Blackpool Tower.
We didn't get a shot of it from a distance, but you can see part of it here
taken from the beach in 1956. (Third pic from the bottom).
Maggi took a great one of the tower which I'm sure she'll be putting up,
with the illuminations in the foreground.

Don't know who the organist in the Tower Ballroom was....

... but he certainly wasn't good old Reggie Dixon,
who was the resident organist there for 40 years,
and who we heard play there when we were kids.
He wasn't playing the Wurlitzer, either.
This page tells you what he was playing
and has info about the organists.

Now we're getting up there. Not to the top yet, but on this level there's a section
of glass flooring...

... which not everyone likes to walk across. Yes, those are my feet !
You probably can't make it out, but part way down there is a small rectangular area
with a body outline in yellow, and the word OUCH ! See the vehicles on the road
to the right ? Look small, don't they ?!!

Another of Bill's photos here. This tells a bit about the Tower, but it's too small
to read. It was based on the design of the Eiffel Tower.
