Getting a bit late in the afternoon, but we had to visit Shakespeare
territory.
The highlight of a row
of lamp posts donated by various countries is this one from Israel
depicting the Fiddler on the Roof.

Close up of detail.

The statue of Shakespeare is the work of Lord Ronald Sutherland
Gower, and was presented to the town in 1888. The smaller figures
of Shakespearean characters are of Hamlet, Lady Macbeth, Falstaff
and Prince Hal; symbolising philosophy, tragedy, comedy and
history.

District Council website.

Shakespeare's Birthplace is situated in the centre of town on Henley Street, and was the place where Shakespeare was born in 1564 and lived with his family. It is also highly probable that Shakespeare and Anne lived here when they were first married. Shakespeare's Father, John acquired the main part of the property in 1556 and parts of the building was owned by descendants of Shakespeare's sister Joan until 1806. A pilgrimage for visitors for centuries, the property was acquired by the Trust in 1847.
