Slough to Uffington
10th July

Before saying goodbye to Slough and heading north
on the Monday morning, we had to show Maggi
what had happened to the main street since we left
in 1961. She's standing in front of the "bird tree".

We also went to have a look at our old junior school, William Penn, (third pic)
and this is what we found !

The sign on the fence tells the story... this is what they're building there now.

The construction workers showed us through their office to the "building site".
They told us that the new building will be some sort of "special school" and the
students will be mostly Indian children.

They also told us that once they're finished on that site, the school next door which
Bob attended when it was William Penn Senior Boys' School, will be next on the
demolition list. Our high school and primary school gone, our old house about to go,
our bridge in Windsor gone, the senior school going... at this point I commented to
Maggi that at this rate, by the time we reached Paris, the Eiffel Tower
would probably be gone too !

So... next stop, Uffington, of White Horse fame.

Bill managed to get a better shot than I did... maybe because he's taller... ?? :oD
Maggi has one too.

Don't know if you can read any of this, but the info on the White Horse page tells it all.
