After dinner, a quick trip down memory lane, or rather Farnham Road, Essex
Avenue,
and Salisbury Avenue to 62 Surrey
Avenue, the last house we'd lived in before
migrating to Oz. The upstairs window belonged to Mum and Dad's bedroom,
the side one towards the back was the landing (the other one wasn't there
then)
and downstairs the loungeroom is at the front. We just used to call it the
front room !
Dad had built a kitchen extension on the back, but it looks as if it's
been altered,
judging by what you can see here. Our kitchen didn't extend all the way
across.
You can see it behind Auntie Molly's elbow on the 7th
pic here.

That front part has
been added on. The wall was originally flat, like next door.
When we lived there, we had a front
garden !

Surrey Avenue
You'll find Maggi's shot of it here
along with some others in the Slough area.
This
was where we lived before that house,
just around the corner at 70
Canterbury Avenue.
At that time, downstairs was the grocer's shop
where Dad worked as the manager. The original layout
was exactly the same as the other house, but when we
first moved there from Holywell Way, we could only
use the upstairs rooms for accommodation. The front
bedroom doubled as the loungeroom and Mum and Dad's
bedroom, the smallest bedroom (9ft x 6ft) was converted
to a makeshift kitchen, and we had a curtain down the
middle of the middle bedroom, which was slightly bigger,
so Maggi and I could have one side and Bob, the other.

We were just a couple of minutes away from Manor Park, where we always
used to play,
so despite the fact that it was 10pm and now fairly dark, we couldn't
leave without
calling in for a quick play. The swings were already occupied by some
local kids
(the cheek of them !) so we had to settle for a few whirls on this
thing... not quite as good
as the "teapot lid" that used to be there when we were kids !
(Baaaad shot of me... I must remember not to bend over like that when Bill
has
a camera in his hand !)
And a quick slide.
(I had to lighten this one and it's gone very grainy.
Hafta teach Bill about night time photography !)
