Windsor and Slough
8th July

From the castle, we made our way down to the River Thames, which is inhabited by
a lot more swans than I remembered ever seeing there !

When Bill and I visited Windsor in 1999, we'd found the little old bridge (it went
half way across the river to an island in the middle) where I remembered having
photos taken back in the '50s. (Scroll down a few).

Naturally, I wanted to show it to Maggi, and this time, I knew exactly where it was...

... except... it wasn't there any more ! In its place was a new, modern brick and timber
construction ! I suppose it's a nice bridge, but it's not MY bridge !!!

I told Bill I was NOT going to have a photo taken standing on this imposter, but in the
end I relented and even sort of smiled for the camera.

Strolling back along the river bank, we stopped at a little amusement park,
where I discovered that I AM actually too tall for something !

Back to the motel (there's our pretty hire car !)...

... and then off to the Three Tuns for dinner. Maggi and I used to pass this pub
every day on our way to Slough High School, turning right from Farnham Road
(the one you see here left of pic) into Bath Road, and then left into Twinches Lane
after a bit of a walk. Unfortunately the school was demolished in 1982.

After ordering our meal, we decided to sit outside to eat, since it was difficult to
breathe for all the cigarette smoke inside. By the way, we weren't really eating
dinner at 6.30am... these were taken with Maggi's camera and she hadn't
changed the date stamp yet. That's Melbourne time,
so it was 9.30pm on the 8th in England.

Cheers !!
