Saturday, and after a quick browse of that market under our window, we
said goodbye
to Leatherhead and aimed for Stanwell, where we had lived from about 1950
to 1953.
Naturally, we got lost and eventually had to stop and ask at a garage,
where fortunately,
they had a street map of the area on the wall. As it turned out, the
street we needed to
turn into, off the main road, was almost opposite the garage, and from
there, Bill and I
remembered how to get to Holywell Way. Here's the old house... number 47.
Maggi has some good shots here.
Just like the old days
!! Well, the house has changed a little... and so have we, I guess !
Click here and scroll down about
half way.
While we were snapping
away and reminiscing, a lady came out from one of the houses
opposite "ours" and asked what we were doing. We told her we'd
lived there over
50 years ago, and her immediate response was "You're not THAT old
luv" !!
Quite an ego boost, since she was about 20 years younger than us ! Anyway,
then she
proceeded to explain that the reason she'd asked was because all the
residents had just
received notification that those houses are to be demolished. (They belong
to the council).
We weren't too pleased to hear that, but consoled ourselves with the fact
that at least
Maggi has seen it now as well as me.
Next stop...
Windsor
Castle
Henry VIII Gate
The Round Tower on Castle Hill.
If the Royal Standard is flying, it means the Queen is in residence...
(but don't expect
to be invited in for tea and a cucumber sandwich !) and otherwise it will
be the
Union Jack flying.
More info about the
castle here.

Albert
Memorial Chapel... the exterior belies the beauty of the interior.
