With very little time
left to explore Paris, we decided to visit the Palais
Garnier,
or Paris Opera, rather than the Place
de la Bastille. After all, who could pass up
the prospect of encountering the Phantom
of the Opera !
These
photos were all taken by Bill. By this stage, he was so shutter-happy that
I couldn't see much point in taking many myself because he was one step
ahead of me
snapping away at everything in sight.

The 30 metre high
marble Grand Staircase.
Tanya's photos from her 1988 visit show the staircase adorned with
mannequins
dressed in period costume, looking for all the world like the Masquerade
scene
in the musical of The Phantom of the Opera.
