This is
Jasper, Alberta, the place I've wanted to see
ever since I heard John Denver sing...
"Up in a meadow in Jasper Alberta
Two men and four ponies on a long lonesome ride..."
(Rocky
Mountain Suite)
They call the centre mountain peak The Big Chief.
Can you see why ... ?!!
The main street. Yes, they do have a pizza shop !

The Jasper
Tramway transports sightseers up Whistler's Mountain,
starting at an elevation of 1304 metres (4279 ft) above sea level,
to the Upper Station, 2277 metres (7472 ft) above sea level.
The day we were there, the temperature in Jasper was around 20C (68F).
At the Lower Station it was 13C (55F) and at the Upper Station it was 6C (43F).
We didn't hike all the way to the summit, partly because it was shrouded
in clouds, and also because it's very steep with loose gravel and long drops
(!!!)
but I would imagine it was a few degrees cooler again up there.
Looking down on the town of Jasper and the Athabasca River.
