Sleeping in that tiny cabin had caused me some consternation on the
Darwin to Alice leg. I'd taken a pocket MP3 player, anticipating
the probability of there being no entertainment source in the cabin,
but had neglected to charge the battery beforehand. I'd packed
the charger in the checked baggage, not expecting to find a 240 volt
outlet on a train. There was piped music during the daytime, but not
after dinner, so with no music to listen to, I'd read until my eyes
wouldn't stay open. But wouldn't you know it... after putting my
book away (well, my camera manual actually !) I was wide awake
again, and found it very difficult to relax.
The good news was, the cabin did in fact have a 240 volt outlet
so on this leg, we knew to keep our chargers handy. So...
equipped with my MP3 player, I felt more comfortable as
I prepared for another night on board. What I didn't know
(I hadn't used it before) was how to make it play continuously
rather than just one track at a time ! Trying to find another
song every few minutes, not being familiar with the controls,
was more trouble than it was worth. And those little "buds"
don't stay in the ears very well when lying down !
