On the road again, and the distinctive form of Mount Conner
rises from the arid landscape.

While he organizes a cuppa in a roadside parking bay, our driver invites us
to scramble to the top of a sand dune across the road to see a surprise.
It's a salt lake. These photos are not enhanced. The soil really is that
colour. It has a high iron content and is literally rusty !

 

Our driver tells us that Mt Conner is affectionately known as
The Big Toothbrush. Here you can see the lower area which forms
the "handle".

Looking back down the sand dune to where the coach is parked.

 

Just visible at the back of the coach in the previous photo is this
amazing piece of architecture... the "long drop".

 

A short distance along the road we catch our first glimpse
of Uluru...

...and Kata Tjuta
